Guangxi Shipbuilding Completes Its First Silicone Coating painting Project

Recently, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Guangxi Shipbuilding ship repair department successfully completed the painting project of over 13,000 m2 of silicone coating on the below-waterline part of the shell of MV CEMTEX DILIGENCE, marking the company’s silicone painting coating process technology to achieve a “zero breakthrough”.

“MV CEMTEX DILIGENCE” is 229m long x 32.26m wide x 20m high with a gross tonnage of 82,200MT. The main project is the painting of the whole ship’s shell, especially the silicone coating construction below the waterline.

Silicone Coatings is an anti-fouling material that utilizes a combination of silicone hydrogel and the biocide’s new ActiGuard technology. It separates the solid adhesive binder from the fouling organisms by means of an active hydrogel micro-surface layer, to form a highly effective antifouling barrier.

Compared with conventional anti-fouling paints, its anti-fouling effect is longer lasting and it can save 8% fuel for ship owners within 60 months. The construction process of silicone coatings is extremely demanding, difficult and complex, and is currently the world’s most advanced anti-fouling technology for ship shells.

The successful completion of the project was highly praised by the shipowner U-MING MARINE and the coating technical experts, which laid a solid cooperation foundation for the two sides to carry out the subsequent repair projects for four series of ships.
