On May 22nd, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Wuchang Shipbuilding successfully kicked off the construction of an 18,500DWT oil tanker for Athenian Sea Carriers of Greece.
Classed by LR, the oil tanker has an overall length of 149.8 meters, a beam of 22.8 meters and depth of 12.7 meters, with a range of 10,000 nautical miles and a speed of 13 knots.
This oil tanker is of methanol/LNG dual-fuel ready design, offering a high degree of flexibility in terms of future dual-fuel and its endurance options. It meets the latest IMO III emission requirements in bunker mode and the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets phase 3 requirements from 2025.
This new shipbuilding is suitable for loading IMO Class II and III chemicals with ice strengthening and is adaptable to global navigation. Compared with the mainstream ship design in the market, it has the advantages of green environmental protection, large loading capacity, high fuel efficiency, low emission and small carbon footprint.
Wuchang Shipbuilding has started the construction of the first and second 18500DWT oil tankers in February and March this year. And the successful commencement of the third oil tanker, marks that Wuchang Shipbuilding’s mass production of 18,500DWT oil tankers has entered a new stage.
