On May 23rd, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), christened and delivered a 13,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered dual- fuel large-scale container ship, “CMA CGM SAOPAULO” to France’s CMA CGM Group.
“CMA CGM SAOPAULO” is designed by Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC) of CSSC, with a maximum capacity of 13,200 TEUs. It is 336 meters in overall length and 51 meters in beam, with a design speed of 21 knots.
It is powered by LNG dual-fuel power system and fitted with a 14,000 m³ LNG liquid cargo tank with Mark III liquid cargo containment system. Also, it is equipped with the world’s advanced CMD-WinGD9X9DF-2.0 main engine of CSSC’s own brand and the global new generation of Intelligent Controlled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (ICER) system, which can reduce methane escape in gas mode by 50% and greenhouse gas emission by more than 28%.
“CMA CGM SAOPAULO” is specially installed with a huge wind flow guide plate at the bow, which can save 2%~4% fuel consumption during actual operation; it is also installed with energy-saving deflector at the stern, which can improve propeller propulsion efficiency, reduce energy consumption by about 1.5% and significantly reduce carbon dioxide gas emission. Therefore, it is characterized by flexible container loading, leading technology, energy saving and environmental protection, and is known as the world’s newest generation, the latest model of green, efficient and energy-saving container ships.
It is reported there are 6 container ships in this series, and “CMA CGM SAOPAULO” is the fourth one. As planned, the 5th one will be delivered in June, and the 6th one will be delivered in August.
