New Yangzi Shipbuilding Delivers First 1260TEU Methanol Dual Fuel Container Ship

On May 16th, New Yangzi Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, signed the delivery of the first 1260TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship built for the owner, Singapore X-Press Feeders.

It is understood that this methanol dual-fuel container ship is designed and optimized by Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC) together with a famous German design company. It is an open-top feeder container ship with loading capacity up to 1,260 TEU, and capable of loading 4 different sizes of containers.

With an overall length of 148m and a beam of 27.2m, the container ship is designed for a speed of 14kn and is equipped with 2 methanol fuel storage tanks and 1 methanol day tank.

Its power system consists of a MAN 5S50-C9.6-LGIM-EGRBP, shaft generator system and adjustable propeller system, of which the main engine can use methanol fuel.

The container ship is equipped with 2 sets of 1200KW generators with LP SCR system, the main engine and generators are able to meet the IMO Tier III requirements for emissions, and also, the energy efficiency index meets the requirements of EEDI Phase 3.

The four 1,260 TEU methanol dual-fuel series container ships built for the world’s largest independent feeder carrier, Singapore X-Press Feeders Shipowners, is the first project of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group to step into green methanol-powered ship construction. The series of ships were constructed by Xin Yangzi Shipbuilding and Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding respectively.
