China’s 10,000-tonne-class river-sea direct ship makes its first direct voyage to Chongqing

On the morning of May 12, the 10,000-tonne-class cargo ship “Chuangxin 5” arrived at Chongqing Luohuan Port for unloading operations, creating a 10,000-tonne-class river-sea direct ship from the coast of Chongqing’s first direct flight.

This sea-river direct specific route from Zhoushan to Chongqing is the first time that a 10,000-tonne-class cargo ship sails directly from the sea to Chongqing, but also the implementation of the Chinese government’s decision-making and deployment, to further reduce the cost of logistics, to further improve the efficiency of water transport logistics and transportation, and to further tighten the economic ties between the coastal ports and the Yangtze River upstream region of the innovative attempts.

This innovative attempt will provide more efficient water transportation and logistics support for accelerating the economic and trade exchanges between western China and Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions, and boosting the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

Chuangxin 5 is an LNG dual-fuel powered river-sea direct ship with four characteristics: river-friendly, seaworthy, green and economic.

The ship measures 130m in overall length, 16.20m in breadth, 8.50m in depth and 6.1m in design draught with a full cargo capacity of 9,832 tons.

Chuangxin 5 carried 5,400 tons of imported soybeans on April 24 from Zhoushan Port in Ningbo, and sailed directly to Xintian Port and Luohuang Port in Chongqing.

This river-sea direct transport (RSDT) has changed the previous mode of transshipment through riverboats in ports in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, which can shorten the transportation time, save transit fees and reduce the damage rate of goods.
