SWS to add a 1,000-ton gantry crane to boost production

On May 9, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) held a signing ceremony for the 1,000-ton gantry crane project at Dock No.1.

Xu Sha, deputy general manager of SWS, and Hu Mingwei, deputy general manager of CSSC Ninth Design & Research Institute(CSSC NDRI), as the representatives of both parties, signed the procurement contract of 1000-ton gantry crane project.

The implementation plan of the project is to add a new 1,000-ton gantry crane in the Dock No.1 No. 3 600-ton seaward side, using the original No. 1 600-ton track foundation.

After completion of the project, it will enhance the efficiency of Dock No. 1 and effectively alleviate the problems of insufficient lifting capacity of Dock No. 1 for batch construction of container ships and PCTCs, as well as the high loading rate of the original two gantry cranes.

The project also enabled the Capesize bulk carrier/dual-fuel product tanker/Suez crude tanker turnover rate to meet the relevant operational goals in Dock 1.

Also, the new 1,000-ton gantry crane can improve the dock assembly lifting process, meet the needs of SWS’s new ship type development and can meet the requirement of segmental lifting of the largest liquid cargo tank through joint lifting with 600-ton.

The implementation period of the project is 11 months after the signing of the contract and will be delivered in the first quarter of 2025.
