Recently, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) released the Recommended Catalogue of Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements of Central Enterprises (2023 Edition). The 49,900 DWT methanol dual-fuel powered green ship researched and developed by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), was selected as a high-end ship.
It is reported that in order to accelerate the application and promotion of scientific and technological innovation achievements of central enterprises and promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into new productivity, Bureau of Science and Innovation of SASAC has organized the collection and selection of scientific and technological innovation achievements.
After submission by enterprises and evaluation by experts, SASAC compiled “Recommended Catalogue of Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements of Central Enterprises (2023 Edition)” and formed a product brochure to be publicly released for reference and use by relevant organizations in the publicity and promotion, cooperation, transformation and application of achievements.
The 49,900 DWT methanol dual-fuel-powered green ship developed, designed and built by GSI is the first methanol dual-fuel oil tanker project in China, with a total of 6 units in the series, which was successfully completed in January 2024.
With an overall length of 186 meters and a beam of 32 meters, the ship is equipped with the world’s leading methanol dual-fuel drive system, which can be driven by four fuel modes: fuel oil, fuel oil mixture, methanol, and methanol hydrate. It is able to control the combustion state and thus reduce exhaust emissions, so that it does not need to install exhaust gas treatment system to meet the highest level of IMO emission requirements.
According to test calculations, the ship can effectively reduce NOx emissions by 80%, SOx emissions by 95% and particulate emissions by more than 95%, making it one of the world’s leading green and environmentally friendly ship.
