Recently, Samsung Heavy Industries held a naming and delivery ceremony for the fourth 7300 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel-powered container ship “CMA CGM Ambition” built for France’s CMA-CGM Group.
Measuring 268 meters in length and 43 meters in breadth, the CMA CGM Ambition is the latest addition to the CMA-CGM Group’s fleet of 7,300 TEU LNG-powered dual-fuel ships equipped with a variety of fuel-saving technologies and the next-generation smart ship solution, ESVESL.
Samsung Heavy Industries has previously delivered three other container vessels of the same type, namely the CMA CGM INNOVATION, CMA CGM LEGACY and CMA CGM ENDURANCE.
Samsung Heavy Industries and CMA-CGM Group are understood to have signed a contract for the construction of six 7,300 TEU container ships in September 2021, with a total contract value of about 841.2 billion won (about $718 million). The order includes the last two container ships will be delivered by November 30, 2024 one after another.
The CMA-CGM Group is currently investing in the introduction of 95 ships that can be retrofitted with e-methane fuel and 24 ships that can be retrofitted with e-methanol fuel by 2028, for a total investment of more than $17 billion. The goal is to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and thus decarbonize its fleet. Quality of service, digitalization and decarbonization are core values of CMA-CGM Group.
