SWS kicks off a production boom in May

On May 7, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), delivered one 7,000 TEU medium-sized container ship, and kicked off the construction of one 8,600 CEU LNG dual-fuel powered PCTC and two 114,000 DWT Aframax product oil tankers.

With this, SWS currently has a total of 27 new vessels under construction. Including 12 7000 TEU container ships, 3 8600 car carriers and 9 114,000 DWT product oil tankers. This means that Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has fully set off a new wave of production in May, which means that SWS has fully set off a new wave of production in May.

The 7000TEU medium-sized container vessel “ONE REINFORCEMENT” delivered this time is the 5th ship in the series built by SWS for Seaspan Corporation of Canada, which is also the 11th ship completed and delivered by SWS since 2024. SWS delivered a new vessel in 11.6 days on average, while also meeting 50% of its annual delivery schedule.

Classd by DNV, “ONE REINFORCEMENT” has an overall length of 272 meters, a beam of 42.8 meters with a design speed of 21.0 kn, and it is powered by a MAN 6G80ME-C10.5 main engine, which meets the TIER III and EEDI III specifications.

The container ship is of the “S-BOW” line shape, and the hull line shape has been optimized through several rounds of comprehensive optimization in accordance with the owner’s operating characteristics. Equipped with a low-energy main engine, high-efficiency propeller, full-suspension twisted rudder and energy-saving conduits and the bow is equipped with an energy-saving windshield, the ship has greatly optimized its fuel consumption performance.

Fitted with a hybrid desulphurization unit, it meets the requirements of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) III as well as the NOx Tier III emission standards, making it a green container ship.

“ONE REINFORCEMENT” achieved a new record of 46 days of sea trial after launched. Particularly before the sea trial, SWS completed all the engineering mooring tests and submitted 100% of the work for inspection, so that the ship in perfect condition to set for sea trials.

The 8600 CEU PCTC is the third car carrier built by SWS for CITIC Financial Leasing. Classed by DNV and China Classification Society (CCS), the PCTC has an overall length of 199.9 meters, a beam of 38 meters, a depth of 14.8 meters, a design draft of 9.2 meters with a design speed of 19 knots.

Drawing on the construction experience of large cruise ships, SWS adopted new processes such as steel plate leveling, laser cutting, T-beam assembly line production, laser composite welding, welding robots, and new working methods such as no arc quenching plate, no support, no excessive grinding, which have achieved twice the result with half the effort.

The 114,000 DWT Aframax product tanker is SWS’s fist product, with top market share. The two product tankers under construction this time are the fourth one for Thenamaris Company and the second one for Union Maritime Limited Company.

This product tanker is developed and designed by SWS, with an overall length of 249.95 meters, a beam of 44.0 meters, a depth of 21.2 meters, a design draft of 13.5 meters, a design speed of 14.5 knots

Developed and designed by SWS, this product tanker has an overall length of 249.95 meters, a beam of 44.0 meters, a depth of 21.2 meters, a design draft of 13.5 meters with a design speed of 14.5 knots. It uses a MAN B&W 6G60ME-C10.5 main engine, which meets IMO Tier Ⅲ specifications, and is classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR) in the United Kingdom.
