Guangxi Shipbuilding to build two explosive cargo carriers for Hong Kong

On May 7th, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Guangzhou Shipbuilding Industry’s wholly-owned subsidiary in Hong Kong, Wah-chang International Marine Industry Co., Ltd (Wah-chang), as the General Contractor, formally signed a contract with the Hong Kong Marine Department for the project of two explosive cargo carriers.

The explosive cargo carrier is designed by Guangzhou Marine Engineering Corporation (GUMECO) and built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Guangxi Shipbuilding.

It is reported that the project is two steel explosive cargo carriers customized by Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Marine Department for Hong Kong Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD). After completion, the two vessels will serve the waters of Hong Kong, China, for the Hong Kong CEDD to undertake the transportation of explosive cargoes mainly used for engineering construction and mountain development.

The commissioning of this series of explosive cargo carrieries will further enhance the engineering construction capacity of the Hong Kong SAR Government and contribute Chinese ship strength to the prosperity and development of the Hong Kong SAR.
