Recently, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC) and Tianjin Southwest Maritime Ltd. have successfully signed a contract for the construction of two 25,000 cbm ammonia dual-fuel LPG/liquid ammonia carriers.
It is reported that this is the first ammonia dual-fuel LPG/liquid ammonia carrier construction project in China, which will be the first ammonia-fueled gas carrier classed by CCS.
This ammonia dual-fuel LPG/liquid ammonia carrier is equipped with 3 Type A liquid cargo tanks and 2 deck tanks, the design temperature is minus 50 degrees Celsius, can load two kinds of cargoes at the same time, and has ammonia refilling ready function.
It meets the requirements of CCS ice class B and EEDI phase III. With leading design, excellent technology, green environmental protection and high efficiency and energy saving, it provides more operation options for ship owners and features strong market competitiveness, and is an advanced liquid ammonia carrier in China and even in the world.
Tianjin Southwest Maritime, one of the most complete LPG carriers with the largest fleet in China, is an old friend of Huangpu Wenchong. Since 2014, Huangpu Wenchong has built two 12,800 DWT asphalt carriers, two 9,500 cbm multi-purpose gas carriers, and four 5,000 cbm fully pressurized LPG carriers and other vessels for them.
Ammonia fuel is currently a hot topic in the global shipping industry for “zero carbon” energy. With the emergence of more green ammonia production projects, especially the new generation of VLAC(very large liquid ammonia vessel) on the market, ammonia fuel vessels have become one of the hot commodities in the global shipping industry. Under the background of green shipping, Huangpu Wenchong has given full play to its advantages in the field of small and medium-sized gas carriers and undertaken a number of gas carriers, which have been highly recognized by customers.
