On April 29, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), held a naming and delivery ceremony for the first 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel pure car and tract carrier (PCTC) built for H-LINE Shipping Company.
The PCTC “GLOVIS SOLAR” will be chartered to Glovis, a specialized logistics company of Hyundai Group, for operation after delivered, and this is the first project of cooperation between GSI and a Korean shipowner.
“GLOVIS SOLAR” measures 200 meters in overall length, 38 meters in width with a design speed of 19 knots. It has a total of 12 vehicle decks, of which 4 are liftable movable decks, which can load 7,000 cars in accordance with different vehicle cargo loading requirements.
This PCTC is designed with a natural gas (LNG)/fuel oil dual-fuel propulsion system and can sail in three fuel modes. It adopts various energy-saving measures and the EEDI meets the requirements of the IMO’s phase II, making it a green, environmentally friendly and efficient car carrier.
The PCTC also meets the loading requirements for electric vehicles, making it the world’s first car carrier to meet the requirements of the KR electric vehicle classification notation AFP-C(EV).
On the same day, GSI held a naming and delivery ceremony for the 16,000 TEU container ship No. 5 built for Cssc (Hong Kong) Shipping Company Limited and MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Group).
With a length of 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters and a capacity of 16,520 TEUs, MSC Quitterie is the fifth vessel of the largest container ship built in South China.
Installed with desulphurization tower and reserved for liquefied natural gas (LNG) power function, this container ship adopts a brand-new concept of environmentally friendly carbon reduction and drag reduction design to meet the latest environmental emission standards, making it a green, energy-efficient and energy-saving large container ship.
It is reported that the naming and delivery of the two vessels are high-tech, high value-added ship types undertaken by GSI in recent years, reflecting the fruitful results achieved by GSI in product structure adjustment and market development.
GSI has been taking orders for large container ships and dual-fuel PCTCs since 2021. At present, GSI has formed the advantage of undertaking orders in batches and constructing continuously, and has achieved leapfrog development from “zero” to “excellent” in building these two types of vessels.
