CIMC SOE makes new progress in building 13,000 m³ type B tanks

Recently, Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd (CIMC SOE) made new breakthrough on the same day in the construction of two sets of 13,000 m³ type B fuel tanks for Guangzhou Shipbuilding International Company Limited (GSI). In the morning, CIMC SOE held a steel plates cutting ceremony for the second 13,000 m³ type B fuel tank (T153); and in the afternoon, CIMC SOE held a topping out ceremony for the first 13,000 m³ B fuel tank (T152).

It is reported that the shipowner of this project is MSC, and the ship type is 16000TEU dual-fuel container ship, classed by DNV. This project is currently the largest type B fuel tanks in China, its finished dimensions are: 22.2×29.1×30.5 meters, with a structural weight of 1,014 tons and a total finished weight of approximately 1,400 tons.

Compared with traditional type C fuel tanks, the manufacturing of IMO independent type B fuel tanks is faced with challenges such as large volume, complex structure, and difficulty in controlling structural flatness.

However, at the same time, IMO independent type B tank also has the advantages of high capacity utilization, wide range of application scenarios, high reliability, flexible design etc., which can be widely used in large-scale LNG fuel tanks and liquid cargo tanks of LNG carriers and bunkering vessels.
