Safe Bulkers orders new vessel from an unnamed Japanese shipyard

Safe Bulkers, a Greek shipping company led by Polys Hajioannou, has ordered an 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax bulk carrier from an unnamed Japanese shipyard, which is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The new bulk carrier complies with the EEDI Phase III requirements adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) relating to greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the latest NOx emission regulations.

Including the latest order, Safe Bulkers currently has an order for eight newbuildings, two of which are methanol dual-fuel powered vessels, with one, two, four and one scheduled for delivery in 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027, respectively.

Back in January, Safe Bulkers has ordered one 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax bulk carrier from an unnamed Japanese shipyard for delivery in the third quarter of 2026. This is the 16th newbuilding ordered by the company during the last three years.

Safe Bulkers is understood to be an international provider of offshore dry bulk transportation services with a fleet of 46 bulk carriers, including 11 Panamax, 9 Kamsarmax, 18 Super Panamax and 8 Good Hope bulk carriers.
