Sumec marine contracted for two Crown 63 PLUS newbuildings with Wah Kwong

On April 23rd, Sumec marine Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hong Kong shipowner Wah Kwong Transport Holdings Ltd. (Wah Kwong), and at the same time, the two parties also signed a newbuilding contract for two Crown 63 PLUS.

It is understood that Wah Kwong is one of the first shipowners of Sumida’s Crown 63 PLUS, version 3.0. The four 63,000 DWT bulk carriers delivered previously are currently sailing in various ports around the world, in excellent performance and operational condition, including the EASTERN VENTURE (delivered 2023), SOUTHERN VENTURE (delivered 2023), WESTERN VENTURE (delivered 2023) and NORTHERN VENTURE (delivered 2024).

This series of bulk carriers is the first batch of Wah Kwong equipped with intelligent systems, and the first delivered “EASTERN VENTURE” is the first vessel in the world to be certified by BV’s SMART EnE1 intelligent energy efficiency notation.

Therefore, Wah Kwong once again chose Sumec marine to renew the construction of two bulk carriers of the same series. In this cooperation, the two sides will talk about the upgrading of the bulk carrier. By installing sails, shafts and other measures, to further improve the performance of the bulk carrier and reduce the overall energy consumption of the ship by 3.5% striving to reach the level of EEDI 4 phase. The signing of this strategic cooperation agreement signifies that the cooperation between the two sides will open a new chapter and reach a new height.

Wah Kwong Transport Holdings Ltd. is a family-owned company founded in Hong Kong in 1952 by Mr. Chao Cong Yan, one of the four great shipowners of Hong Kong, with the name meaning “Light of the Chinese People”.
