Greek shipping company Laskaridis Maritime returns to Hengli Heavy Industries to place shipbuilding orders after nearly a year. Greek shipping company Laskaridis Maritime has reportedly returned to Hengli Heavy Industries to place orders for four additional 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax bulk carriers, bringing its order book for Kamsarmax bulk carriers at the shipbuilder to eight.
The new bulk carrierss will be equipped with desulphurization units and are expected to be delivered in 2026. The value of the order has not been disclosed. However, shipbrokers said that Chinese shipyards offered between $37 million and $38 million for Kamsarmax bulk carriers, which would put the total value of Hengli Heavy Industry’s four additional orders at between $148 million and $152 million.
It is reported that the cooperation between Laskaridis Maritime and Hengli Heavy Industry started in May 2023. At that time, the two sides signed a shipbuilding contract for four 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax bulk carriers, which is the first overseas order signed since Hengli restarted its shipbuilding business, and also marks the continuous expansion of Hengli Heavy Industry’s mainstream bulk carrier construction volume. The price of each unit of the order is approximately $34 million, compared to the additional order of $3 million to $4 million for a single unit.
It is reported that the above eight new ship shipping market mainstream bulk carrier ship type, will be designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI).
The bulk carrier measures 229 meters in overall length, 32.26 meters in beam, 20.35 meters in depth, 12.2 meters in design draft, with 82,000 tons in deadweight and 14.0 knots in design speed. It is characterized by “green, environmental protection, energy saving and safety”, and is the latest generation of ship type that meets EEDI phase 3.
Notably, this is the second overseas order made public by Hengli Heavy Industries this month. A few days ago, it was announced that Hengli Heavy Industries had secured four 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax bulk carriers, which are expected to be delivered between the end of March and the end of September 2027, from Turkish shipping company Ciner Shipping.
