GSI launches 7,000 ceu LNG dual-fuel ro-ro vessel

On April 20, a 7,000 ceu LNG dual-fuel Ro-Ro vessel built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd (GSI) for Guangzhou COSCO Shipping Car Carriers was successfully launched.

This is a new ro-ro vessel to be launched after Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. launched its first new vessel on March 25th, and the two vessels will be delivered and put into operation in September this year.

The 7,000 ceu LNG dual-fuel ro-ro vessel built by GSI is designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI). The vessel measures 199.9 meters in overall length, 38 meters in breadth, 14.8 meters in depth, 8.6 meters in design draft with 19 knots in speed, and has 12 vehicle decks, of which 4 decks are liftable decks. The vessel can carry lithium battery cars, of which the 2 decks can also carry hydrogen fueled cars and LNG fueled cars, which is the first ship in the world to meet the requirements of China Classification Society’s “Technical Guidelines for the Safety of Ro-ro Carriage of New Energy Vehicles “.

It is understood that there will be 6 new vessels that Guangzhou COSCO Shipping Car Carriers would take deliverey and put into operation in batches this year, and the delivery of new vessels will reach 11 and 7 respectively in 2025 and 2026.

It is expected that by the end of 2026, Guangzhou COSCO Shipping Car Carriers will form a fleet size of 30 automobile ships, achieving an annual transportation capacity of 700,000 units, and continuously expand the service scope and frequency density of the route to meet the demand for China’s automobile export capacity, and escort the new quality productivity to the sea.
