DACKS set to build first dual-fuel VLCC

On April 19, Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co Ltd.(DACKS) held a steel cutting ceremony for the first dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC) to be built for a well-known Japanese shipowner.

The dual-fuel VLCC has a length of 339.5 meters, a beam of 60 meters and a depth of 28.90 meters with a design speed of 15.45 knots. It is equipped with dual-fuel main engine, generator and boiler, which effectively reduces carbon dioxide emissions. The air-conditioning system adopts R-407H refrigerant, which realizes zero ozone depletion and is technically greener.

In addition, the living area is equipped with recreational facilities such as a movie theater, swimming pool, basketball court, etc., which effectively improves the crew’s daily working and living environment. The overall excellent design of this VLCC demonstrates DACKS’ profound accumulation and innovative capability in the field of green new energy shipbuilding.

The successful starting of the first dual-fuel VLCC of this project is an important milestone for DACKS in the field of green shipbuilding, and a new stage of the breakthrough progress of the company’s first dual-fuel project, marking another important step on the road of promoting the development of new energy shipbuilding and green shipping business.
