BOMESC awarded design contract for FPSO topside

In early April, MODEC announced that it has been successful in securing the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) for a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) system for Shell do Brasil Ltda (“Shell”) on the Gato do Mato development, offshore Brazil.

Gato do Mato FPSO will be moored at a water depth of approximately 2,000m, some 250km off the coast of Brazil. MODEC will be responsible for the design of the hull and all related topsides facilities for the FPSO, which is projected to be moored by a SOFEC Spread Mooring system. The produced stabilized crude will be stored in the FPSO tanks and the oil will be offloaded to shuttle tankers to go to market.

Currently, MODEC has delegated the design some of the design of some of the topsides of “Gato do Mato FPSO” to Tianjin BOMESC, a wholly owned subsidiary of BOMESC Offshore Engineering Company Limited (BOMESC).

Located in the Santos Basin, approximately 200 km offshore Brazil, in water depths of around 2,000 meters, the Gato do Mato project is a pre-salt gas-condensate discovery that covers two neighboring blocks: BM-S-54 and Sul de Gato do Mato. In December 2023, Cristiano da Costa, president of Shell Brazil, said the company plans to make a final investment decision in the first quarter of 2025.
