DNV awards China’s First AIP Certificate for Cyber Security Onboard Ships

On April 15, DNV awarded Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) China’s first Approval-in-Principle (AiP) certificate for cyber security onboard ship.

This is also DNV’s first AiP certificate for oil tankers in the world, marking a substantial breakthrough for SDARI in the field of cyber security design.

This certification meets both the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) Unified Requirements for cyber security (UR E26) and DNV Cyber Secure (Essential) class notation requirements.

IACS UR E26 is a new rule requirement for cyber security onboard ships, which will be mandatory on new shipbuilds contracted for construction after July 1, 2024, and is designed to achieve cyber resilience by treating the ship as a whole, protecting it from cyber threats from both external and internal sources, and safeguarding its safe operation.
