Two Product Tanker Owners Revealed Of Chengxi Shipyard

In January this year, Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), announced that it had undertaken six 50,000 dwt MR product tankers and four 82,600 dwt methanol dual-fueled bulk carriers. Four methanol dual-fuel bulkers and four of the MR product tankers were ordered by Seacon Shipping Group and Foremost Group respectively, while for the other two MR product tankers, the owners have finally been revealed.

According to foreign media news, Greek shipping company PRODIGY placed an order for two 50,000 dwt MR product tankers with CSSC Chengxi Shipyard in January this year, which is expected to be delivered in 2026, with the cost of a single unit estimated at $45 million, and the total value of the order at about $90 million.

The above order is PRODIGY’s first order for MR product tankers, but it is not the first cooperation with CSSC Chengxi Shipyard. The Greek shipping company has previously built four 82,000 dwt bulk carriers in the shipyard.

In the first quarter of this year, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard undertook a total of 12 new shipbuilding and 49 ship repair project, completion and delivery of 5 new shipbuilding and completed repairing 39 ships. Meanwhile, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard successfully delivered 44 sets of wind towers and signed new wind tower manufacturing contracts.

In February this year, W Marine, a Greek bulk carrier shipping company, signed an order for two 82,000 dwt bulk carriers in CSSC Chengxi Shipyard, which is also the first newbuilding order for W Marine in nearly 20 years. After the release of PRODIGY’s order information, the shipowner information of 12 new vessels contracted by CSSC Chengxi Shipyard in the first quarter of this year have been made public.

In the first quarter of this year, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard exceeded the target of the first quarter in terms of business undertakings and industrial output value, and the on-schedule delivery rate reached 100%.
