French shipping company EuroGreen Maritime SAS (EGM) has announced that it has signed a seven-year charter contract with Norwegian energy giant Equinor for four newbuild methanol dual-fuel MR IMO II product tankers. The deal marks a significant development in greening the shipping industry and highlights the two companies’ shared vision for a cleaner, more sustainable maritime industry.
The four methanol dual-fuel MR IMO II product tankers mentioned above are being developed by EuroGreen Maritime in cooperation with French company LMG Marin and will fly under French flag. The new product tankers will be built at the Weihai base of Wuhu Shipyard Co., Ltd (Wuhu Shipyard) at a total value of more than US$250 million (approximately RMB 1,808 million), with a price tag of more than US$62.5 million for each unit and are expected to be delivered from the first half of 2026 to 2027.
Each new product tanker will feature state-of-the-art technology with a MAN B&W methanol dual-fuel engine, a shaft generator and a battery hybrid power generation system. It is equipped with two Oceanwings wind-assisted propulsion systems developed by AYRO of France, which can significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions, thus improving the green performance.Equipped with shore power system, it can reduce emissions during harbor operations.
EuroGreen Maritime stated that the new in the series will reduce greenhouse gas, SOx and NOx emissions by more than 45%, 95% and 50%, respectively, compared to conventional MR product tankers and will be free of any particulate matter.
Under the time charter contract with Equinor, the four new product tankers will be managed by the ship management company V.Ships France after delivery.
