Changhong International kicked off construction of the first 115,000 dwt LR2 Tanker

On April 1, Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard Co. LTD (Changhong International) kicked off the construction of the first 115,000 dwt product/crude oil tanker CHB3001, marking the official opening of the construction of Changhong International LR2 tanker.

This ship type is a new generation LR2/Aframac tanker developed by Changhong International and CIMC ORIC based on the latest specification rules. It measures 249.9 meters in overall length, 245.5 meters in inter-drape length, 44 meters in breadth, 21.5 meters in depth and 15.2 meters in structural draught with a maximum deadweight tonnage of 115,000 tons.

Since the contract was signed in May last year, the design team of Changhong International has been actively responding to the ship owner through model review, drawing management of WRIKE system, etc., and fully collecting all kinds of opinions and suggestions, to continuously provide efficient and high-quality services for the ship owner.

The 115,000 dwt tanker is the latest generation of this ship type in the current market, with significant energy-saving and environmental protection features. By adopting straight bulbous bow, it balances the fast performance of design draught and structural draught, which can reduce fuel consumption and carbon emission and has an excellent carbon emission rating.

The LR2/Aframac tanker is equipped with the latest generation 6G60ME main engine and a propeller with a larger diameter than similar tankers, as well as energy-saving devices such as vortex elimination fins and energy-saving conduits, resulting in a significant improvement in propulsion efficiency. For the same design speed, the main normal continuous rating (NCR) is reduced by 10% compared to similar tankers, and the energy efficiency index meets the highest Phase III requirements.

The project has carried out several rounds of optimization on the cabin compartmentalization, total longitudinal bending moment and floatation center position to improve the floatation state and stability. To ensure that the tanker has a maximized cargo capacity and obtains an excellent empty weight index. The upgraded cargo hold capacity is about 132,000 m3, which can carry about 830,000 barrels of refined oil or crude oil.

As a main ship type of Changhong International in recent years, the company currently holds 16 115,000 dwt of tankers on hand.
