Drydel Shipping, the Greek bulk carrier shipping company led by Costas Dellaportas, has signed a contract with Japan’s Shin Kurushima Dockyard for the construction of a 64,000 dwt bulk carrier, which is expected to be delivered in 2026.
This is Drydel Shipping’s (formerly Meadway Shipping and Trading) first newbuilding contract since renaming, bringing its newbuilding order book at Japanese shipyards to 10 vessels.
Shipbrokers have quoted between $34 million and $35 million for similar tonnage, as new bulk carrier offers vary from shipbuilding country to shipbuilding country, but have not yet disclosed the price of the order or details of the bulk carrier.
It is understood that Drydel Shipping officially changed its name on February 19, 2024 to distinguish it from Meadow Bulkers, which was founded in 2021 by George Dellaportas under the lead of Costas Dellaportas.
Drydel Shipping currently has a fleet of 11 bulk carriers with an average age of 6 years. There are also 19 chartered vessels and 10 new shipbuildings to be delivered between 2024 and 2026.
