RINA has awarded Kindon New Energy Technology (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. the Approval in Principle (AiP) for its innovative green methanol offshore production platform recently.
Produced entirely offshore, the methanol is derived from renewable CO2 through DAC (Direct Air Capture) technology and green hydrogen from offshore wind power water electrolysis technology.
This innovative approach marks a significant step towards sustainable and environmentally friendly production methods in the marine and offshore industries.
The plant produces 100,000 tons of green methanol per year and synthesizes methanol from hydrogen and carbon dioxide under high temperature and pressure. All methanol synthesis processes are done offshore, and electricity demand is met entirely by green electricity generated from offshore wind power.
CO2 access is facilitated through the use of DAC technology. At the same time, the system is designed with interfaces for future access to externally supplied CO2 from green or biomass sources.
