The two latest types of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)/liquid ammonia carriers independently developed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), have gained high recognition in the market for their excellent design, and the orders are coming in one after another.
Recently, Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co.,Ltd. (CIMC SOE) and European shipowner CAPTICAL GROUP have signed an order for 40,000m3 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)/Liquid Ammonia Carrier 2+2 which is announced to be officially effective.
By coincidence, the optional order for a 48,000m3 LPG/Liquid Ammonia Carrier signed by Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), and the Greek shipowner BENELUX, has also been announced to have come into effect.
Thus far, the design orders for medium liquefied gas carriers (MGC) designed by SDARI amounted to 11, making it the design institute with the largest number of MGC orders in the world. It is reported that there are several other related projects under negotiation.
As a new generation MGC carrier developed by SDARI, the 40,000m3 LPG/Liquid Ammonia Carrier can carry a variety of liquefied gas cargoes such as LPG, Liquid Ammonia, Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) and meet the demand for cargo exchange transportation.
The LPG/Liquid Ammonia Carrier is equipped with 3 A-type independent liquid cargo tanks, which can effectively enhance the utilization rate of cabin capacity and improve the economic performance. It adopts LPG dual-fuel propulsion and is equipped with a high-pressure LPG dual-fuel main engine, which meets the requirements of the third stage of energy efficiency of ship’s energy-efficiency design index (EEDI), and effectively reduces the pollution emission and greenhouse gas emission from the operation. At present, SDARI has completed the detailed design of the successor ship model, and all key indexes have reached or better than expected, with strong market competitiveness.
The 48,000m3 LPG/Liquid Ammonia Carrier is a new Super-MGC type with better economy developed by the LPG team of SDARI based on the comprehensive consideration of the needs of MGC owners. The LPG carrier has an overall length of 190 meters, a beam of 32.2 meters and a depth of 19 meters. The cargo holds are equipped with 3 independent fully-cooled A-type liquid tanks, which are built with low-temperature carbon-manganese steel, with a total capacity of 48,000 m3. In addition to loading liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and other petrochemical cargoes.
