XSI launched first 7,500 CEU PCTC for COSCO Shipping Car Carriers

On March 25, the first 7,500 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTC built by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd.(XSI), under Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co. and jointly ordered by COSCO Shipping Car Carriers and BOCOM Leasing, was successfully launched, and is expected to be delivered in July.

The 7,500 PCTC has an overall length of 199.9 meters, a beam of 38 meters, a depth of 14.8 meters with a speed of 19 knots and a range of 12,000 nautical miles. It adopts single propeller dual-fuel hybrid power system, which can use clean energy such as liquefied natural gas for the whole voyage, and also can use traditional fuel, both environmental protection and flexibility. The PCTC has 7,500 standard parking spaces on 13 vehicle decks for all types of vehicles including passenger cars, trucks and construction machinery.

The design of the new shipbuilding meets the strict TIER III emission standard requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and adopts a number of advanced green technologies, which will significantly reduce the emissions of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and carbon dioxide during operation. All the 24 newbuildings ordered by COSCO Shipping Car Carriers adopt LNG dual-fuel power system, which can realize 24% carbon reduction rate after being put into operation, and will contribute to the dual-carbon target of China’s automotive industry chain.

It is reported that this PCTC, which commenced construction on December 26, 2022, is the first new shipbuilding to be launched among the 24 7,000-8,600 CEU LNG dual-fuel car carriers currently on order by COSCO Shipping Car Carriers, which is of milestone significance. At present, Mawei Shipbuilding and Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry, under Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group, have undertaken 12 7,500 CEU dual-fuel PCTCs from the shipowner.
