Wuchang Shipbuilding Signs Contract for 2+2 Offshore Construction Vessels

On March 14th, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co.,Ltd (“WS”), an affiliate of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, successfully signed a construction contract for 2+2 offshore construction vessels (OCVs) with a European shipowner. This OCVs will be mainly used in traditional oil and gas industry and renewable energy industry such as wind power in the future.

Designed by Salt Ship Design, a famous Norwegian design company, the OCV has an overall length of 100 meters, a beam of 23 meters, a design draft of 7.5 meters with a deck area of 1,150 square meters. It is equipped with an electric propulsion system driven by 4 sets of diesel generator sets, 2 sets of stern full rotary thrusters, 1 set of bow telescopic thrusters, 2 sets of bow lateral thrusters and 1 set of 1,500KWH energy storage battery system. It is also fitted with a 150-ton offshore crane with active wave compensation, which is capable of completing offshore operations up to 3,000 meters water depth in complex sea conditions.

Wuchang Shipbuilding is a main construction base for offshore engineering vessels in China. Over the years, Wuchang Shipbuilding has successfully established a system of research and development and construction of offshore engineering vessels on the basis of research on various types of offshore engineering vessels, manufacturing technology, process research and application, and classification society specifications. Wuchang Shipbuilding successfully delivered China’s first high-power deep-water triple-use workboat “Haiyang Shiyou 691” to serve China’s offshore strategy.

Besides, Wuchang Shipbuilding has cooperated with industry giants such as Ulstein and Wärtsilä to develop a series of 6,000HP-32,000HP workboats and platform supply vessels, which can fully meet the individualized and differentiated market demands.

Wuchang Shipbuilding, a modernized base for the building of submerged and surface vessels, has created complete military industry manufacture codes and established a process system through independent innovation, and made significant contribution to the updating of the naval equipment and national defense of China. The military products fabricated by WSIC have been exported to many countries or regions, such as Africa, South Asia and Middle East.

Wuchang Shipbuilding, also a major manufacture base for public service ships, work ships and ocean engineering equipment in China, has the capacity to design and build 300,000 tonnage vessels. It has built more than 1400 ships, including public service ships, working ships, offshore service ships, bulk carriers and high-speed boats. The UT788 deep-water three-use working ship represents the most advanced level in manufacture of ocean engineering equipment in the world; the “China Maritime Surveillance 50” has successfully cruised around the Diaoyu Islands; the VS series of offshore service ships have been exported to such Western European countries as Greek and Norway. As the underwater floating body project for Petrobras was delivered to the satisfaction of the customer, the CJ46 platform and the DVC5000t floating crane & pipe-laying vessel was undertaken, WSIC has put itself in the rank of high-end ocean engineering equipment manufacturers in the world.
