SMDERI receives large order for electric propulsion systems

Recently, the power system integration business of Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research institute (SMDERI) under China State Shipbuilding, has been reported frequently. After winning the batch order of DC Grid Electric Propulsion System electric propulsion system for Dingheng’s 6400DWT chemical tankers (5 sets of vessels), SMDERI once again won the bidding of DC Grid Electric Propulsion System electric propulsion system for 120TEU&216TEU container ships (6 sets of vessels) of Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Of Cccc Fourth Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. The contract value of the order exceeds RMB 110 million.

It is reported that the two types of ships bid by 711 are classed by Lloyd’s Register. The power system adopts DC grid electric propulsio, and the power station is equipped with 3 sets of high-speed generator sets and 2 sets of lithium iron phosphate battery system to provide electric power to meet the power demand of the ship for sailing and entering/leaving the harbor, etc. The propulsion system adopts high-efficiency permanent magnet motor to enhance the operational energy efficiency, and at the same time, the photovoltaic system is arranged in the top space to satisfy the demand for life lighting.

SMDERI will optimize the energy-saving control strategy by combining with the operating conditions of the ship to give full play to the energy-saving advantages of the diesel-electric hybrid DC grouping power system, and will carry the self-developed remote operation and maintenance system, which will provide convenient operation and maintenance management for the subsequent power equipments.

In recent years, SMDERI has been making continuous efforts in green ship power. The DC Grid Electric Propulsion System equipped with new energy and energy-saving technologies such as variable speed unit, LNG gas unit, super capacitor, lithium battery, fuel cell, etc., which has been successively applied to nearly 60 sets of ships in batches such as ferries, cruise ships, workboats, official ships, tugboats, bulk carriers, container ships, liquid cargo ships, etc., and has been designing, matching, and providing advanced and applicable green solutions for various types of ships.
