New Dayang Shipbuilding Delivers First 950TEU Methanol Dual-Fuel Feeder Container Ship

On March 18th, New Dayang Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Sumec marine Co., Ltd., successfully delivered the first methanol dual-fuel feeder container ship in China, to Singapore X-Press Company.

Designed by a famous German company, this feeder container ship measures 148 meters in length, 27.2 meters in breadth, 14.3 meters in depth, with a design speed of 14 knots and a maximum container capacity of 1,170 TEU. It adopts the design of no hatches, which greatly reduces the center of gravity of the ship and improves the full-loaded container capacity. With forward and closed bow design of the superstructure, greatly improves the comfort of the crew’s living. The one-pilot bridge building design and the electronic chart autopilot and track keeping system optimize range and save fuel and sailing time while increasing automation and saving operating costs.

The methanol dual-fuel feeder container ship adopts the world’s first 5S50ME methanol dual-fuel main engine developed by MAN, equipped with a shaft-belt generator and energy-saving devices such as adjustable propellers and suspended flap rudders. When fueled by green methanol, which is safe and convenient, with good dynamics and low emissions, it can be operated with zero carbon emissions and meet EEDI Phase 3 and emission Tier Phase 3 requirements.

Dual-fuel ship refers to the mode of operation of clean energy fuel or traditional fuel can be chosen at will, clean energy fuel is generally methanol, LNG, ammonia, etc., comprehensive operating costs and technical maturity and other considerations, compared with the two energy sources of LNG and ammonia, green methanol has more advantages.

It is understood that the delivery of green, energy-saving, environmentally friendly methanol dual-fuel feeder container ships marks Sumec marine in the research and development of new ship types and expanding the market for high value-added ship types has made great progress, but also Sumec marine to build green ships and high-end equipment manufacturing, among the strategic emerging industries to achieve important results.
