Asia’s first deepwater jacket platform completed

On March 12, Haiji-2, the first deepwater jacket in Asia designed and built independently by China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC), completed construction in Zhuhai.

“Haiji-2” has set a number of Asian records in terms of structure height and weight, operating water depth and construction speed, etc., marking that China’s capability of independent design and construction of deepwater super-large jacket platforms has reached the world’s first-class level.

Fixed deepwater jacket platform is the most widely used offshore oil and gas development equipment in the world, mainly consists of three parts: jacket, pile leg and superstructure module, and jacket is equivalent to the “foundation” of offshore oil and gas platform.

The operation depth is 324 meters of jacket platform Haiji-2 , nearly 40 meters deeper than “Haiji No. 1”. The height of “Haiji-2” is 338.5 meters, which exceeds the height of the main building of Beijing China World Trade Center III. Its weight is 37,000 tons, which is close to the total weight of the steel structure of the National Stadium “Bird’s Nest”.

“Haiji-2” has successfully increased the water depth of the deepwater jacket platform application to more than 300 meters in China for the first time, which can significantly reduce the development investment, engineering construction and production costs. It makes the development of a large number of potential deepwater marginal oil fields possible, and opens up a new way for the economic and effective development of oil and gas resources in China’s 200-meter to 400-meter medium-deepwater sea area.
