Southeast Shipyard receives order for eight 18,500 dwt chemical tankers

Fujian Southeast Shipyard Co., Ltd (Southeast Shipyard), a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Corporation (Fujian Shipbuilding), has secured a major new shipbuilding order worth US$260 million (RMB 1.87 billion) in the product oil/chemical tanker sector.

Pioneer Tanker, a subsidiary of Singapore-based shipping company Pioneer Logistics, is further expanding its market position in the chemical tanker sector, according to Trade Winds. Pioneer Tanker has signed a contract with Southeast Shipyard for the construction of eight 18,500 dwt product oil/chemical tankers, with an order value of US$260 million (about RMB 1.87 billion) and a single-vessel cost of about US$32.5 million. This is Pioneer Tanker’s first appearance in a newbuilding program. The order was signed in late 2023 but has never been reported before, sources said.

It is understood that Pioneer Logistics, headquartered in Singapore, has a diversified and growing fleet of 30 vessels with a total capacity of 2 million deadweight tons, and is committed to continuously expanding and upgrading its fleet to meet the needs of its customers, which operates five subsidiaries: Pioneer Tanker, Pioneer Bulk, Pioneer Line, Y & D Marine and Zrich Shipping.

This is the second chemical tanker order disclosed by Southeast Shipyard in the past month. On February 18 this year, Seacon Shipping Group Holdings Limited, through its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary Seacon Shipping, entered into a contract with Southeast Shipyard for the construction of four 18,500 dwt product oil/chemical tankers. The new shipbuildings are expected to be delivered successively from July 31, 2025 to May 31, 2026, with a cost of US$32.3 million per unit and a total order value of US$129.2 million.

It is worth noting that the Seacon Shipping order is the first order undertaken by the Southeast Shipyard this year, while Pioneer Tanker’s shipbuilding contract was signed at the end of last year, which does not belong to the category of this year’s new orders. The cost of the two orders for a single tanker is not much different.

Established in 1956, Southeast Shipyard is located in the famous natural harbor of Mawei, Fuzhou, covering an area of 210,000 square meters. The shipyard has one 20,000-ton slanting platform with 300-ton gantry crane, two indoor flatboat platforms, four outdoor flatboat platforms, modern hull machining workshop and painting workshop, four wharves, and a quay length of more than 700 meters.

The shipyard has the ability to develop, design and manufacture all kinds of vessels up to 30,000 tons. Particularly, it has rich experience in designing and building all kinds of high value-added offshore engineering vessels, platform supply vessels, offshore rescue vessels, product oil tankers, fishing vessels, container vessels, landing craft, and ro-pax vessels.
