March 12, Hong Kong’s new ferry 500-passenger hybrid water jet propulsion carbon fiber high-speed craft ” Xin Mingzhu 6 ” successfully launched.
The high-speed craft, undertaken by CSSC Guangzhou Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd, and built by Guangdong Zhongwei Composite Material Co., Ltd., is currently the most complex hybrid passenger ship in the Asia-Pacific region. It integrates new materials, new energy sources and new hybrid type, and will become a demonstration project to provide green, energy-saving and environmental protection for the development of water transportation in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area).
With an overall length of 44.75 meters, a beam of 11 meters, a service speed of 26 knots and a maximum capacity of 500 passengers, Xin Mingzhu 6 is the first carbon fiber hybrid high-speed passenger ship in Hong Kong. It is made of advanced carbon fiber high-tech materials, with technical advantages such as light weight, corrosion resistance, low noise, etc.
Xin Mingzhu 6 is equipped with two battery compartments, with a total of about 645 kWh of lithium iron phosphate batteries of the world’s top brand, which can continuously navigate about 21 nautical miles at a speed of 10 knots in the pure electric mode, and fully meet the requirements of environmental protection. When sailing in Victoria Harbour, it can be propelled in purely electric mode, thus achieving “zero” pollutant emissions and minimizing pollution to the harbour and the city.
The hybrid energy management system can cut down the energy efficiency of the power supply system when the high-speed craft is sailing, ensuring that the power supply system always stays in the efficient working range, which maximizes the energy efficiency. The diesel engine propulsion mode and battery propulsion mode can be switched by one key, which can smoothly transition when the ship is switched from low speed to high speed or from high speed to low speed, giving passengers a better riding experience.
