Dalian Shipbuilding completed sea trial for MSC 16,000 TEU container ship

On March 12, the 16,000 TEU container ship No. 7 built by Tianjin Base of Dalian Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) for MSC, successfully completed the sea trial.

It is the third container ship built by Tianjin Base of Dalian Shipbuilding for MSC. This container ship was docked on December 13, 2023 and reached the sea trial condition in only 84 days, which 48 days ahead of the annual plan of the shipyard, with a record high completeness of the sea trial.

Developed and designed by Marine Design & Research Institute of China (MARIC), it is one of the representative ship types of MARIC Hercules series of ultra-large container ships, which is the largest ship type of Panama of the new generation.

This ship type has an overall length of 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters, a structural draft of 17.0 meters and a design speed of 22 knots. The number of cargo hold and deck stacking layers is up to 23, with a total capacity of 16,616 containers. Equipped with 2050 reefer container sockets, it can load 1800 reefer containers simultaneously. It meets the requirements of the new locks of the Panama Canal and can be flexibly deployed on major routes around the world.

The new shipbuilding is equipped with shaft generator system, variable frequency fan, bubble damping and other devices, which further reduces the energy consumption ratio. The main engine and generator are equipped with independent scrubber towers, and the front and rear double-island arrangement meets the requirements of the latest specification rules and various pollution gas emission standards.
