China’s first largest LNG carrier “Greenenergy Ocean” completes sea trials

Recently, “Greenenergy Ocean”, the first large-scale LNG carrier of CNOOC’s medium and long-term FOB (Free On Board) resources supporting LNG carrier project (Phase I), completed its first sea trial successfully.

The projetc was undertook by CSSC Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding to build 6 large-scale 174,000 m3 LNG carriers. This price of the project is 7.5 billion yuan (about 1.177 billion U.S. dollars), which is equivalent to a single ship cost of 1.25 billion yuan (about 196 million U.S. dollars).

With an overall length of 299 meters, a width of 46.4 meters and a depth of 26.25 meters, GreenEnergy Ocean has four cargo holds with a total capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. It has a storage capacity of up to 107 million cubic meters after LNG being vaporized, which is equivalent to providing gas consumption for Shanghai’s resident households for one month.

It is understood that GreenEnergy Ocean is the first ship in China to adopt the latest generation of NO96 Super+ cargo containment system, the evaporation rate of which can reach 0.085%, providing a wider range of oil and gas balanced speed for low-carbon navigation.

The 174,000 m3 LNG carrier is equipped with the world’s first oil-fired iCER (Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling) dual-fuel main engine, which is fitted with the latest ICER system and water treatment system, meeting the requirements of Tier III emission regulations in both oil-fired and gas-fired modes.
