HSHI Receives order for 4 VLCCs

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding, announced on March 12 that it has signed a contract with a European shipping company for the construction of four Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), with a total order value of KRW 688 billion (approx. USD 520 million), at a price of about USD 130 million per unit.

The new shipbuildings will be built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do, and is expected to be delivered by December 16, 2027.

Including the latest order, HD KSOE has taken orders for 69 new ships valued at $8.38 billion (about KRW 10.9686 trillion), realizing 62% of its annual order target of $13.5 billion.

In terms of ship types, it includes 6 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 26 product tankers, 21 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)/ammonia carriers, 1 very large ethane carrier (VLEC), 2 liquefied carbon dioxide carriers, 6 VLCCs, 3 medium-sized crude carriers, 2 PCTCs, 1 FSRU, and 1 offshore unit.
