On March 8, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Offshore Co., Ltd (SWS Offshore), a wholly owned subsidiary of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS), officially started the construction of H1600, the first PCTC project.
This ship type is designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI). It is 199.9m in overall length, 38m in beam, 14.8m in depth, 9.2m in design draught with design speed of 19.0kn. The new shipbuilding is equipped with MAN B&W 7S60MEC10.5-GI-HPSCR main engine, which meets TIER II/III regulation. The PCTC boosts a total of 14 vehicle decks with a maximum carrying capacity of 20,000 tons and a maximum of 8,600 cars.
It is understood that SWS received an order from CITIC Financial Leasing for three 8,600 ceu dual-fuel-powered PCTCs in October 2022, and H1600 which started construction, is the first unit of the project.
