Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Receives order for another LPG carrier

On March 6, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, a large shipbuilding enterprise subordinate of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, signed a contract with Benelux of Greece for one 48,000 m3 LPG carrier.

It is a successor to the 2 medium-sized gas carriers contracted by Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding during the Marintec China in December 2023, and is the largest gas carrier project undertaken in South China. The orders will be delivered from 2026 onwards.

The LPG carrier has an overall length of 190 meters, a beam of 32.2 meters and a depth of 19 meters. The cargo holds are equipped with 3 independent fully-cooled A-type liquid tanks, which are built with low-temperature carbon-manganese steel, with a total capacity of 48,000 m3. In addition to loading liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and other petrochemical cargoes, it also meets the needs of liquid ammonia loading and cargo exchange transportation.

The new shipbuilding is designed to meet the Tier-III emission requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Meanwhile, it effectively saves the cabin capacity and greatly improves the economic performance, which has been widely favored by domestic and foreign customers since its launch.

In recent years, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding has given full play to its advantages in quality and technology in small and medium-sized gas carriers, and has successively built and delivered a number of green and environmentally friendly high-tech and high value-added products, such as a series of 1,400 TEU dual-fuel-powered container ships, 5,000 m3 of LPG gas carriers, 9,500 m3 of LNG dual-fuel-powered multi-purpose gas carriers/fuel carriers as well as 48,000 m3 of LPG gas carriers, etc.
