Nantong CIMC SOE kicks off 1,600 cbm LNG fuel tanks

Recently, Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd (Nantong CIMC SOE) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project of 1,600 cbm LNG fuel tanks, which is built for Seaboard Marine Ltd.

The LNG liquid tank is a triple C-type, half-cooled, half-pressurized fuel tank. The hull of the liquid tank is made of 9% nickel steel, and the net weight is about 165 tons. The fuel tanks are classed by DNV and each ship will be equipped with one tank. After completion, the tanks will be fitted with Nantong CIMC SOE’s dual-fuel 1,450 TEU container ships under construction.

As previously reported, the order of 1,450TEU container ships is a 2+2 new shipbuilding order undertaken by Nantong CIMC SOE in June 2023.

As a new generation of environmentally friendly feeder container ship, this LNG dual-fuel container ship adopts LNG dual-fuel propulsion and is equipped with MAN’s high-pressure dual-fuel main engine, which effectively reduces operational pollution emissions and greenhouse gas emissions. Meanwhile, it is also the first ship in the world to use triple C-type tanks, which effectively saves the cabin capacity and improves the economic performance.

The liquid tank adopts a paralleling three-valve fuel tank design, which is customized for dual-fuel 1450TEU container ships.
