On February 28, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd,(SWS) a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), officially named and delivered the fourth 190,000 dwt dual-fuel-powered bulk carrier “Ubuntu Liberty”.
It is reported that Ubuntu Liberty has a length of 299.80 meters, a beam of 47.5 meters, a depth of 24.70 meters, a design draft of 18.25 meters, a design draft speed of 14 knots, and is registered with the Det Norske Veritas (DNV). It is LNG-fueled, with two C-type LNG fuel tanks. Under LNG fuel mode, it basically eliminates the emission of particulate matter and sulfide, and the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is 45% lower than the baseline, which meets the requirements of IMO Phase IV specification, and has the characteristics of “green, environmental protection, energy saving and safety”.
The Ubuntu Liberty will embark on its first voyage from China to Saldanha Bay to collect premium grade iron ore.
This series of bulk carriers is a new generation of dual-fuel-powered vessels with independent intellectual property rights independently developed by SWS, and it is the company’s brand ship type leading the green transformation and upgrading of global bulk carriers. By using low-carbon sustainable fuels such as LNG, bulk carrier can not only ensure the safety of maritime operations, but also promote the maritime industry as a whole to move towards a greener and cleaner future, realizing the harmonious integration of resource supply and environmental responsibility.
It is worth mentioning that “Ubuntu Freedom” is the final shipdual-fueled bulk carrier of the series of 4 vessels of the project between Anglo American and SWS. Up to now, SWS has delivered a total of 562 vessels, including 334 Capesize bulk carrier and 12 dual-fuel-powered vessels, which further consolidates SWS’s position as a leading innovator in the field of large bulk carriers globally.
