CMJL Yangzhou Delivered First of 10 Newbuilds to FureBear JV

China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou (CMJL Yangzhou) delivered Fure Vanguard, the first in a series of 10 dual-fuel ice class 1A 17,999 DWT product tankers to FureBear, a 50/50 joint venture between Sweden’s Furetank and Canada’s Algoma Central Corporation.

The FureBear joint venture was established in 2022 with an initial order for four 17,999 DWT product tankers. In September 2022 and September 2023, two more units were ordered, respectively. The last order was placed in February 2024 for two more units. All orders are for the Vinga series of ship type, with the last unit expected to be delivered in late 2026 and early 2027.

All 10 Vinga class vessels will be entered into the Gothia Tanker Alliance and operated by Furetank out of Gothenburg, Sweden, for the transportation of biofuels in Northern Europe. This product tanker is 149 meters in length and 22.8 meters in breadth, equipped with dual-fuel engines as well as full shore power facilities, and can run on LNG/LBG or diesel. It features a battery hybrid solution and a number of innovative designs that reduce fuel and energy consumption, resulting in significant reductions in CO2, SOx, NOx and hazardous particulate emissions.

Designed for the intense and demanding trade in the North Sea and Scandinavia, this series of tankers is ideally suited to meet Europe’s growing demand for biofuels and renewable feedstocks.
