XMXYG SOE receives order for six 38,000 DWT chemical tankers

On February 27th, XMXYG Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd.(XMXYG SOE) and Stolt-Nielsen held a strategic cooperation agreement and signing ceremony for the shipbuilding contract of six 38,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers.

The six 38,000DWT stainless steel chemical tankers contracted this time have an overall length of about 184.9 meters, a cargo tank capacity of 43,500 m3, and a design speed of 13.7 knots. With 30 independent duplex stainless steel cargo tanks, the chemical tanker has excellent storage performance and high flexibility, which can effectively block chemical penetration, significantly reduce maintenance work in the cargo tanks, and improve navigation safety and service life.

The ship type is designed to reduce consumption and emissions, adopting the patented F-type bow design to optimize the hull line, and combining with SCR technology. It can meet the Tier-III emission requirements of the IMO, taking into account the safety, economy, environmental protection and comfort. In addition, it is equipped with shore power connection equipment to maximize fuel efficiency and reserve space for upgrading and modifying methanol fuel and battery power, which reaches a new height in environmental performance.

Founded in 1959, Stolt-Nielsen is a global leader in liquid chemical logistics, the world’s largest operator of chemical tankers, with more than 170 vessels in operation worldwide, with a total capacity of more than 3 million dwt. Stolt-Nielsen is also the market leader in ISO chemical storage tanks. With Stolt Tanker containers, Stolt-Nielsen, through Stolt-haven, a subsidiary of the Stolt Group, has an important infrastructure in the world’s major chemical ports.

As previously reported, in early February 2024, XMXYG SOE signed a contract with NYK Stolt Tankers (NST), a joint venture of Stolt-Nielsen, for the construction of 6 x 38,000 dwt stainless steel chemical/product tankers, which are expected to be delivered by the end of 2026 to 2029. Besides, German shipping company GEFO Shipping has also signed a contract with XMXYG SOE for the construction of 10 x 3850 dwt stainless steel chemical tankers, which are expected to be delivered from 2026 to 2028.
