Mawei Shipbuilding Awarded Order for Two 4,200 CEU Dual-Fuel PCTCs

Greek shipping company Neptune Lines has returned to Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding, to place an order for two dual-fuel car and truck carriers (PCTCs).

Neptune Lines has signed a contract with Mawei Shipbuilding for the construction of two more 4,200 CEU LNG Dual-Fuel PCTCs, which are expected to be delivered in 2027, the company announced on its website on 31 January. Together with the latest order, Neptune Lines’ order for 4,200 CEU dual-fuel PCTCs at Mawei Shipbuilding has increased to four ships. The first two units were signed in September 2023 and are expected to be delivered in 2026.

The prices for the latest 2 PCTCs have not been disclosed. Based on the cost of a single ship (US$75 million) signed last year, the total value of the order for the 4 ships would be US$300 million (approximately RMB 2.153 billion, at current exchange rates).

With an overall length of 177.8 metres, a beam of 33.4 metres, a depth of 13.55 metres, a design draught of 8.4 metres and a maximum draught of 8.65 metres, the series of ships were designed by Finnish ship designer Deltamarin and classed by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

In addition to using LNG or VLSFO as marine fuel, the new PCTC will be equipped with an energy storage system, a shore power system and a solar power generation system, aiming to minimise the impact on the environment.

This series of PCTCs will be primarily used to load a wide range of ro-ro and non-ro-ro cargoes, such as vehicles of all types including cars and trucks, and packaged dangerous goods, as well as being capable of transporting new energy vehicles fuelled by hydrogen and natural gas on decks 10, 11 and 12 (or on designated decks).
