CCS Grants First Type Approval For OCCS To SMDERI

On January 30th, China Classification Society (CCS) issued the first type approval for OCCS (Onboard Carbon Capture System) to Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research institute (SMDERI).

The certified “Onboard Carbon Capture System” is the world’s first real ship OCCS project covering the whole process.

Based on the rich experience accumulated in the field of marine desulphurization and denitrification for many years, SMDERI has successively broken through the key technologies of high-efficiency CO2 capture, low-energy CO2 separation, and low-temperature CO2 deep liquefaction, developing marine carbon capture products with independent intellectual property rights, and solving the bottlenecks of the traditional carbon capture technology, such as low capture efficiency, high energy consumption, and large size, etc.

Moreover, during the sea trial, SMDERI has accomplished all the type approval test projects of CCS for OCCS, meeting the requirements of the regulations in all indicators.

At present, the system has been continuously and stably operated on 15000TEU large container ship, effectively reducing the ship’s carbon dioxide emissions.
