China’s Second Domestically Built Large Cruise Ship To Began Assembly And Loading

On January 25, the first domestically produced large cruise ship AIDA Magic City has successfully completed six commercial voyages. Meanwhile, the second cruise ship will be docked in the second quarter of 2024 to start a new phase of assembly and loading.

It is understood that the second domestically produced large cruise ship started construction in August 2022 at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co.(SWS). Up to now, 85% of the material ordering has been completed, 77% of the detailed design has been completed, 58% of the production design has been completed, and 302 of the 656 segments of the ship have been started.

Noteworthy, the second cruise ship is not a simple replica of the first ship. Compared with AIDA Magic City, the second large cruise ship has an increase of 0.67 million tons in gross tonnage, an increase of 17.4 meters in overall length, and an increase of 19 staterooms. It has an overall length of 341 meters, a beam of 37.2 meters and a gross tonnage of about 142,000 tons. At the same time, two new desulphurization towers and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems have been added. The shape of the top chimney has been changed from “pill head” to “big back head”. In addition, a huge 16-story superstructure living and entertainment area was configured.
