On January 18th, Mawei Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding, started the construction of the first vessel in the project of 22 85,000 DWT series of multi-purpose pulp vessels ordered by COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers and CITIC Financial Leasing.
The 85,000 DWT multi-purpose pulp vessel is the largest multi-purpose vessel constructed by Fujian Shipbuilding, which is also the largest multi-purpose pulp vessel in the world now. The 85,000 DWT series vessel will measure 225 meters long with a breadth of 36 meters, a depth of 21.05 meters, a designed draft of 10 meters, and a designed speed of 15.5 knots.
This series of multi-purpose pulp vessels has the following four main features:
Highly specialized in pulp transportation. The vessel’s cargo holds are all box-shaped with open-hatch design; equipped with 75-ton crane, back-loaded hatch covers and roller dehumidification system to ensure safe and professional transportation of pulp.
widely available for different goods Equipped with 4 sets of 75 tons cranes, it can realize joint lifting of large cargoes. In addition to loading pulp, bulk cargo, containers, reefer containers, it is also suitable for loading high-speed trains, steel coils, wind power equipment, new energy vehicles, large machinery and equipment, super-long and super-heavy steel pipe pile structure and other cargoes.
Excellent performance. The vessel is equipped with low-wave drag-enhancing lines, high-efficiency propellers, energy-saving conduits and hubcaps, and integral design of ship, engine, propeller, and energy-saving equipment, which greatly optimizes speed and wave resistance and enhances the overall performance of the vessel.
Energy saving and environmental protection. Equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to effectively reduce NOx emissions and meet Tier III requirements. Also, the desulphurization tower system is used to control SOx emissions; the shore power system is installed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions during port operations, it meets the highest requirements of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships to meet the CCS Green Ship Standard and obtain the Green Ship Symbol.
According to the construction plan, all 22 vessels in this series are scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2026.
The vessels will primarily serve the export of Chinese manufacturing equipment in sectors such as automobiles, energy storage, photovoltaics, wind power, engineering machinery, port machinery, rail transportation, as well as the import of strategic bulk materials such as woodpulp.
