Taiwan Navigation has returned to Namura Shipbuilding for 2 bulk carrier newbuildings

On January 16, Taiwan Navigation Co., Ltd. signed a contract with Namura Shipbuilding for the construction of two 40,000 dwt bulk carriers, which are expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2026.

Mr. Liu Wenqing, Chairman of Taiwan Navigation, said, “Since the cooperation between the two parties in 2019, Taiwan Navigation has been very satisfied with the excellent construction quality and high acceptance of Namura Shipbuilding’s vessels in the market, so it continues to choose Namura Shipbuilding for this shipbuilding program.”

Taiwan Navigation has not announced the price of this order. In November last year, Taiwan Navigation ordered two 40,000 dwt bulk carriers from Namura Shipbuilding at a cost of not more than US$32.3 million per vessel. In addition, in May 2022, Taiwan Navigation, through its subsidiary Tai Shing Maritime, ordered two 40,000 dwt bulk carriers from Namura Shipbuilding at a cost of US$32.3 million per vessel.

Taiwan Airlines is said to be actively promoting its fleet renewal program. Since the Chairman , Mr. Liu Wenqing, took office in September 2016, he has eliminated and replaced 12 old vessels for Taiwan Navigation and ordered 12 new energy-saving vessels in batches, of which 8 have been delivered and the remaining 4 will be delivered one after another by the third quarter of 2024, then Taiwan Navigation will have a young fleet of 23 vessels with an average vessel age of 5.5 years.
