HD Hyundai Heavy Industries delivers 174,000 m3 LNG carrier

Recently, Capital Product Partners L.P. (CPLP), a diversified Greek shipowner, has taken delivery of the 174,000 m3 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier “Axios II”.

The Axios II was built by Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for January 2024 delivery. The vessel has a cargo tank capacity of 174,000 m3 and is equipped with MAN MEGA engines, air lubrication system, shaft generators and higher filling limits (over 99%). The vessel is part of CPLP’s agreement to acquire 11 newbuild LNG carriers and is the second vessel acquired under the agreement, the first of which was the Amore Mio I delivered on November 7, 2023 by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The “Axios II” has commenced a one-year time charter at market-linked rates, followed by a seven-year bareboat charter with Bonny Gas Transport Limited, with an option for a further three years.

As reported earlier, CPLP entered into an umbrella agreement with Capital Maritime & Trading Corp. and Capital GP on Nov. 13, 2023, for the acquisition of 11 newbuild LNG carriers from Capital Maritime as part of its transition to the LNG sector.

The 11 vessels were acquired for a total purchase price of up to US$3.13 billion, each with a capacity of 174,000 m3 and built/under construction by Korean shipyards HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. And equipped with MAN MEGA engines, they utilize the GTT-developed Mark III Flex membrane sealing system.
