On December 31st, the first batch of two 16,000 TEU containerships built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding for shipowner SEASPAN were successfully delivered to MSC.

It is reported that “MSC ILENIA” signed the delivery documents on December 14th and “MSC IVA” signed the delivery documents on December 28th.

The ship measures 366.0m in overall length, 355.4m between two columns, 51m in breadth, 30.2m in depth, 14.5m in design draught, 17.0m in structural draught and 22 knots in speed. This vessel is in line with the development trend of ultra-large container ships in terms of green environmental protection, energy saving and high efficiency. The ship’s main engine is equipped with EGR, which meets Tier III emission standards; the desulfurization tower is installed to meet sulfur emission requirements; and the ship is equipped with the world’s leading air damping system.

The construction of the two vessels started at the same time in August 2022, and in February 2023, they were docked and built respectively. There are nine vessels in the series, and the two vessels are the first in the series delivered for operation in the MSC fleet.

It is understood that the first ship “MSC ILENIA” was put into operation on December 18th.
