GWS completed the renovation project of 16,000 TEU large container ship “MSC London”

On December 27th, Guangzhou WENCHONG SHIPYARD Co., Ltd. (GWS), a subsidiary of Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), completed the Conversion of 16,000 TEU large container ship “MSC London” for MSC and was delivered 20 days ahead of schedule. This is the second 16,000 TEU container ship GWS has rebuilt for MSC, and this delivery marks the in-depth cooperation between the two sides to a new level.

It is reported that GWS completed the ship’s mega projects such as installation of hybrid desulphurization system, lashing bridge replacement, bulbous bow changeover, heightening of living area, and overall changeover of deck surface paint (gray to red) within 55 days, overcoming the comprehensive cross impacts brought about by the overall changeover of deck surface paint, and breaking the industry record at an unimaginable speed.

The renovation project involves 3,000 tons of steel structure, 4,757 meters of pipes, 74,000 meters of cables, and a total painting area of more than 70,000 square meters, which once again set a new record for the largest amount of container ship renovation work in the history of global ship repair.
